Do-it-yourself

Eli's school pictures this fall were, to say the least, lacking. So I decided that, since we have a new fancy camera and our boys are just cute, I'd try getting some "official" kid photos on my own. If it didn't work, nothing lost - I'd just make an appointment at Sears or something. Lots of good ones of Asher. Eli is a little camera shy right now, so it was harder to get some of him. Here's a few of our favorites.

So that's why we do 1/2 hour bedtimes.

We had dinner at some friends' house last night. Since we got back a little late, we didn't do baths before bed. Apparently bedtime didn't give sufficient time to get settled down, because this is how I found Eli when things finally quieted down upstairs. Note that at bedtime I left him neatly tucked into his covers, which were all actually on his bed.

Get it while you can

We've been spending lots of time outside in this beautiful, and unseasonably warm weather, knowing that it's probably only a matter of weeks until we lose it. It's also much more fun to play with our new camera in the natural light!

All about Asher

Because the last one was all about Eli. And because I have these great pictures!

And so it begins -

The driving back and forth to school, keeping track of library books and field trip dates and "red day" so that my son is not the only one wearing blue that day. Last week was a whirlwind of learning the ropes at Eli's new preschool. He's enrolled in Northwest Co-op Preschool and I think by the end of the first semester he may actually be able to tell you the name of his school without any prompting - it's not the kind of name that sticks in your mind.
Deep in thought in the way to his first day.

Does going to school actually physically age children immediately? After his very first day, he seemed so much more independent and grown up. I'm sure it's just that I'm finally recognizing how much he's growing - and the fact that I now spend a significant amount of time alone with a 1 1/2 year old, which sure makes Eli seem older. The big kid haircut he got the week before starting school doesn't help, either.
This week Friday will be his first field trip already. He's very excited.

Circle time Eli's first day of school.

Love Summer. Love these guys!

Our first time stopping the ice cream truck - they were so excited - a truck that comes to their house and gives them frozen treats!

Our church's camping trip.

Eli's 4th birthday

was last weekend - June 27th. His party was at Grandma and Grandpa Traxler's house the day before. Enjoy the pictures.

Eli's new big-kid bike with training wheels.

The Turtle Cake (I have to say I'm pretty proud of this one! The idea for the feet came from Jeff.)

Eli's first tubbing experience -

- he loved it!

We couldn't keep the candle lit with the breeze - so he blew out the lighter. He didn't seem to mind.

Opening presents with cousins Ellie, Josiah, and Jacob.

Aunt Cherie and Emme.

Grandpa Pete, Grandma B and Asher.

Headed home with the loot!

Hey, what can we say - even super hero's need their rest. (He wanted to wear the whole thing, but Jeff wouldn't let him. Something about it being around his neck? - blah, blah, blah)

Brothers and Friends?

Last week, while Jeff was away, I took the boys to the Meijer Gardens for a long morning. It was beautiful weather and the boys have really started playing TOGETHER the last couple of weeks. Most of the time, Eli didn't want me to play with him, he wanted Asher to. And once he even followed Asher to do what Asher wanted to do! Love those boys.

February? Really?

I had the privilege yesterday to visit with a childhood friend and meet her fiance. It was one of several moments over the last half a year that have made me intensely grateful for those people who have known me for longer the 12 years - people who knew me when I was knobby kneed, when I got glasses and braces in the same year, when I lived in a bathing suit all summer (chosen for it's sturdiness against the amazing damage water can do when you fly off a tube due to my father's vicious "rides").

She mentioned that she still periodically checks our blog to see if there's anything new. This was a bit ironic since I had just check the day before and thought, "February? Really? The last time I posted was February? Pictures of a frozen lake and snow men?" I had thought about posting something new, but figured, after four months, who's checking anymore.

And so, inspired by my good friend Liz, I have returned. No promises. But at the very least, there's a few updated pictures. We had a great time with our boys at Festival of the Arts downtown last weekend. So here are a few of my favorites from those two days.
